Hi, I'm Kirk. Timber & Smoke is my workshop in small town Ontario, Canada, and every block that leaves it passes through my hands and nobody else's. It starts as a plank of locally sourced Canadian Hard Maple — no MDF, no thin veneer, none of the shortcuts most “personalized” ornaments online are built from. I cut it, sand it, engrave all six sides, seal it, and inspect it on this bench before it ever ships.
I don't run a template through a machine and call it personalized. I read the details you send me, lay out the whole design by hand, and only then does the laser touch the wood — because a first Christmas only gets engraved once, and it should look like someone actually cared that it was yours.
I make one at a time because no two are the same. Every block is someone's whole story. At least the beginning of it.

This is Scarlett — official shop supervisor, unofficial scrap wood thief. She has been known to swipe the odd piece of wood here and there, always the raw offcuts, never anything that's actually headed out the door. Every finished order still gets counted, inspected, and boxed up untouched.
What she actually does is come along on every supply run, patrol the shop floor while I'm at the bench, and make sure the whole operation doesn't take itself too seriously. Every order that's ever gone out this door, she was somewhere nearby when it happened.

A word about timing
Order by Dec 10th. But honestly, order now.
Dec 10th is the last day an order can realistically make it under the tree. That's the deadline. Here's the honest part: every block is made to order, one at a time, by one person, and the Christmas queue gets absolutely slammed. When the queue is full, it's full, deadline or not.
Order now and it's done. Engraved, shipped, wrapped, crossed off the list while everyone else is refreshing tracking numbers on December 22nd.
Questions, answered straight
Will it arrive before Christmas?+
Order by Dec 10th and yes. But every block is made to order, one at a time, and the Christmas queue fills up well before the deadline. The earlier you order, the safer you are, and the sooner it's crossed off your list.
What if I make a mistake in the details?+
Every order gets proofed by a human before it touches the laser. If something looks off, like a date in the future or a name that seems misspelled, we reach out and confirm before engraving. Nothing gets burned into maple until it's right.
What exactly is it made of?+
Solid, locally sourced Canadian Hard Maple, 1.75 inches on every side, finished with a semi-gloss lacquer that protects against moisture and everyday life. Not MDF, not veneer, not plastic. Real wood with real weight in your hand.
Can I pick a different icon than the Santa hat?+
Yes. There are 12 icons to choose from in the order form: Santa hat, Christmas tree, snowman, two reindeer styles, owl, squirrel, bunny, fox, Santa face, wreath, and snowflake.
How does the second block deal work?+
Check one box at checkout and a second identical block gets made alongside the first, at a steep discount, with no extra typing. Families use it as a backup, a gift for grandparents, or one for each parent's tree after the kids grow up.
