Behind the Scenes

Every piece starts as an idea. Someone describes what they want, or we picture it ourselves, and long before anything gets made, it exists only as a thought.

Then it becomes a file. We open Illustrator or the CAD software and start drawing, choosing a font that actually fits the piece, adding the details that make it personal. This is where most of the real work happens, and most of it never shows up in the finished piece. We add an element, then take it away. We try three fonts before landing on the one that feels right. There is a line between too much and just enough, and finding it takes longer than anyone would guess.

From file to first cut.

Once the design feels right, we choose the material, the board, the wax, the wick, whatever the piece calls for. The right material can make a good design look intentional instead of accidental.

Then comes iteration. We make a test piece, look at it under real light, notice what is crowding the design or what is missing, and go back to the file. Sometimes that happens once. Sometimes it happens a dozen times. We do not ship it until it is right, even if that means starting over.

Testing it, adjusting it, testing it again.

When it is finally done, we photograph it, because how something is shown matters almost as much as how it is made. Good light, the right angle, nothing distracting in the frame. Then it goes out, presented the way it deserves to be.

That is what shows up at your door. Not something pulled off a shelf, but something that was an idea once, then a file, then a dozen small decisions, before it ever became yours.
